Timber Drying Operator

An opportunity has arisen for timber drying operator to join the Kilns team at Red Stag Timber based at Waipa Mill, just 10 mins south of Rotorua CBD.  Whilst timber industry experience is ideal, we offer full free training for the right candidate to gain a specialist industry qualification and complete the New Zealand Certificates in Timber Drying Level 3 and Level 4.

Once the successful candidate is fully competent in our site processes, they will be assigned to a permanent roster.  To gain full experience and competency during the training period, the ability to work flexible days, nights or weekend shifts is therefore essential.  Hours will be discussed at the interview with shortlisted candidates.

A school record with minimum L2 passes in NCEA English and Maths, a reliable work record and physical fitness to meet the demands of the role are basic requirements.  Effective communication and initiative are expected with experience operating machinery, mobile plant or wood processing equipment an advantage.

The role is required to operate a small loader and therefore a current full NZ driver’s licence is required.    Other duties include:

  • Training in safe timber stacking
  • Monitoring the drying process
  • Maintenance of some timber drying equipment
  • Operation of computerised management system
  • General teamwork with other operators

Remuneration is negotiable based on prior experience, and will be reviewed as training is completed and competency is shown on the job.

 As part of the recruitment process, shortlisted candidates will undergo a mechanical aptitude test at their interview.  A pre-employment drug test and medical also applies.
