This is an exciting opportunity for a school leaver who has completed Year 12 and a minimum NCEA L2 qualification, to join the Maintenance team at Red Stag Timber in January 2020.

Located 10 minutes’ drive south of Rotorua CBD, Red Stag Timber is an industry leader when it comes to producing quality timber products.  The Company operates New Zealand’s largest sawmill and is a well-established and successful business, employing 380 staff & contractors.  We continue to grow our skills base to support ongoing upgrades & increased production volumes. 

Upon satisfactory completion of a paid work trial period as a Trades Assistant, the successful candidate will then be enrolled in a formal training programme to achieve a L4 National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering.  This will involve hands-on work as a mechanical apprentice, mentored by our experienced Trades people.  Apprenticeships generally take up to 4 years to complete.  Skilled and trade qualified Mechanical Fitters have the earning potential of $75,000+/annum and are highly sought after in many industries, both in New Zealand and overseas.

Ideal applicants will have:

  • A minimum L2 NCEA pass with Merit in Mathematics (statistics), English, Physics and a Technology/IT related subject. 
  • Excellent communication skills, personal presentation, willing to follow instructions.
  • Confident computer and IT skills.
  • A reliable ‘work-first’ attitude, along with an appreciation of workplace safety.

A pre-employment medical, including drug screening applies, and due to the nature of the work, candidates must be physically fit.   Any health issues need to be declared at the time of application.  As part of the recruitment process, shortlisted candidates will undergo mechanical aptitude testing.
